Watford's most vulnerable residents are facing unscrupulous behaviour by at least one of the energy companies, just as the poor winter weather really bites. E.on has been raising residents' monthly direct debit payments, in some cases doubling them, without any discussion with their customers.
Sal Brinton, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate said: "Residents have contacted me, extremely worried about how they are going to pay these large increases. It is a real shock when you have a very limited budget to have these rises coming through. It is really important that elderly and disabled people keep warm, especially given how cold it has been, but these increased payments will leave our senior citizens, together with families with children struggling to pay their bills".
Sal reminded residents: "If anyone is struggling to pay their energy bills, they should contact their energy supplier or the Citizens Advice Bureau."
