On Friday of last week Simon Hughes MP, Liberal Democrat Climate Change Shadow Secretary of State visited BRE and RES with Liberal Democrat Prospective MP Sal Brinton.
During the visit Simon talked to RES about the need for sustainable generation of power including wind farms and solar energy. They then went on to talk to the Building Research Establishment (BRE) in Garston to see the latest designs for well insulated and carbon neutral homes.
Following the visit Sal said: 'It was a very productive morning visiting the two sites and discussing the future of sustainable construction and dealing with climate change. One area that we were particularly interested in was the cost of producing wind generated power. RES are clearly leading the way in developing effective wind generation, and it was good to see them putting this into practice at their own HQ in Kings Langley.
'Visiting the new carbon neutral houses at BRE's Innovation Park was also very impressive. They too are leading the way in changing the way that builders and residents think about making our homes much more energy efficient.'
Simon Hughes commented: 'Building more environmentally friendly housing is the way forward, saving not only home-owners' money in bills but also being much more friendly to the environment. Both visits were extremely productive and I am sure that with forward thinking that these companies are doing we can really cut carbon emissions.
'Liberal Democrats are the natural environment party. We believe Britain can have a nuclear-free, renewable energy future. We are championing bold government leadership, a massive expansion of energy efficiency and renewable programmes and an end to unfair energy prices. '
