Resurfacing disgrace - County loses grip

Whilst Sal Brinton and her team were out knocking on doors in Tudor at the weekend, they spotted a Herts Highways resurfacing sign, which claimed that the scheme to resurface Norfolk Avenue (a road of approximately 200m in length and 80 or so houses) would take an astonishing three weeks to resurface.
However, as the team walked down Norfolk Avenue, they could see that the initial temporary surface had been poorly laid and was cracking and dangerous, with deep ridges down the road and water collecting in puddles instead of draining away down the gullies. Local residents explained that not only were they angry about the very slow pace of the roadworks but some had also had their houses and cars damaged by the contractors.
Sal said: 'It was unbelievable. Not only were the contractors to the County Council undertaking appallingly shoddy work but they were proposing to take three weeks to complete the task. Then, on top of that, they've damaged the cars and property of local residents.
'Cllr Lindsay Scudder and the local Liberal Democrat team have been chasing Herts Highways for a number of days to get them to ensure that the cars and houses are repaired and that the road gets urgent treatment and is resurfaced properly. County have told us that they are now expecting this scheme to take even longer to complete than the original three weeks. You couldn't make it up!'
Sal concluded: 'This is just another example of how the Conservative-run Hertfordshire County Council is failing residents by not managing its contractors effectively. A scheme of 200m resurfacing scheme should take days not weeks and should not cause damage to property.'
